Another great date idea: geocaching treasure hunt. Photo: J.Smith.
Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt game where players use a Global Positioning System Receiver (GPS-R) to find hidden treasure (or, more usually plastic boxes of trinkets). Geocaching is played by people of all ages and is great for families, individuals or even as a date idea!
To get started you’ll need to sign-up for a free account on the Geocaching Website, which will allow you to download position information for geocaches all over the world. Caches are often hidden close to beauty spots and places of interest so geocaching can sometimes be used as a way of exploring a city or area. Some geocaches are located in easy to reach places with disabled access, while others may require a long hike or require special equipment and experience (e.g. mountain climbing or scuba diving).
You will also need a GPS receiver so that you can enter the latitude and longitude information that defines the hiding place of the geocache you want to visit. It is sometimes possible to find a geocache using only the online map data, but you’ll have more success if you have the proper gadget!
Happy Hunting!
