It can be very difficult to let your sweetheart know just how much you value them, and how much they mean to you. It is a very special thing to name a star after someone, to let them look up into the night sky and always be reminded of how much they mean to you. You’ll also have the perfect excuse to invite them out for the evening to a quiet, secluded spot to gaze into the night sky together and try to find their star.
Naming a star after them can mean so much to them: as the they see their certificate or look for their star on the star chart it can be difficult for them to take in what has been done in their name. There can be few more poignant ways to express your love
Strictly speaking, naming a star is not official – the only official star names are those published by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and use numbers. Some stars are named after the astronomer who found them, but even these are unoffical – and the only way to achieve that is the hard way: get out your telescope and find a new star! Most star-naming organisations provide a special gift pack including certificates, star charts and astronomy guides to allow you to find your star. It may not be official in the eyes of the scientific community, but it will be an everlasting gift of love for both you!
